Northern Inside-out Flower

Vancouveria hexandra (Barberry family - Berberidaceae) Small, pointed white flowers in open clusters on smooth stalks supported by leafless stems, and leathery pinnately compound leaves that grow in patches. Flowers: about 1/2 inch long; 6 white sepals sharply bent back at the base. Flowers in May to July. Found in shady coniferous woods from Washington to Northwestern California. Ours grow among the Douglas Firs in our big circle.
