Twisted Ulota

Ulota obstusiuscula Plants small, olive-green to reddish-green, forming dense cushions and tufts on tree trunks and branches; stems 1-3 cm high, irregularly branched. Leaves 1.5-4 cm long, contorted when dry, contorted to upright when moist, lance-shaped from an expanded base, gradually narrowed to a slender, sharp point; upper leaf cells rounded, with small papillae; inner basal leaf cells clear, thick walled, becoming thin walled and rectangular near edges. Epiphytic, usually on alder, maple and other broad-leaved trees, but sometimes on conifers in lowland rain forests.
