Lodgepole Pine

Trees Growing at Our Pleasant Hill Oregon Home

Lodgepole Pine in 2010

Pinus contorta var. latiflora Native to the coast of western North America, from Alaska to California, an important forestry tree. Height may reach 80 feet. Flowers open in late May. Cones are reddish brown, short and rounded. Although some open each year, many remain closed and persist on tree. Needles are in pairs. This one was a gift from our friend Linda. Called Lodgepole because the Indian used it for their longhouses due to its straight trunk. In 2010 it exceeded 5 foot high.
