Consumers Reports list the Toyota Prius as a recommended category. Their report reads as follows: The Prius has excellent fuel economy and good interior room. It switches between the gas and electric motor or runs on both as needed. The car can run on electric power at low speeds and charges the battery while coasting or braking. The base version returned 44 mpg overall in our tests. The touring version has better handling and braking but returns 42 mpg overall. A rear camera is available and highly recommended. ESC is still optional. A 2010 redesign is around the corner.
