Hull of the Peter Iredale

Fort Steven's State Park, Near Astoria, Oregon

21. Hull of the Peter Iredale, 1999

In 1961 a storm broke loose the supports of bowsprits causing the ship to fall. Since then there is little that resembles a ship and much of the lower part of the ship is buried under the sand.

In the winter of 1999 we had one of our stormiest seasons. These storms took approximately 8-10 feet of beach out to sea. This gave us one of the best views of the Peter Iredale that we have had for many years.
