Hatfield Marine Science Center, Newport, Oregon Coast 5. Touch Tank Youngsters from 4 to 80 can gently touch these creatures in this tank. Before the Oregon Coast Aquarium was built, Newport was already known as a center for marine science research. This facility, though primarily a university research center, also contains displays that are open to the public. Exhibits, although not quite as impressive as those at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, highlight current topics in marine research and include an octopus aquarium and a "touch" tank. Interpretive exhibits explain life in the sea. A worthwhile adjunct to a visit to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There is no charge to use this facility. ⇦ Back to Page 4 On to Page 6 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (291K) Return to Hatfield Center Choices |
