13. Fresnel Lens Information

Eight feet tall, six feet wide. Weighs about 2000 pounds. A large silver-coated parabolic reflector at the back of the lens helps concentrate the light rays.

Made in Paris, France in 1868. A first order lens - the largest of the six orders (sizes) of lenses used in most of the world's lighthouses. It's a rare fixed lens - never rotated. Showed a steady light for 66 years. A 1000 watt electric lamp was installed in 1939 to flash the pattern still used today to identify the Yaquina Head lighthouse.
