Cook's Chasm, Oregon Coast 7. Spouts Just a short distance south of the Devils Churn is another fissure in the rock that the incoming tide rushing in makes a spectacular sight. You can view it from the top. When the tide is just right an incoming wave rushes into underwater caverns and then compresses the air so there is a blowhole spouting water and vapor into the air. There is a parking spot so you can view it easily. You can walk out on the bridge to see more also. There is a sign marked Cook's Chasm. Just across the street is the road to the Heceta Head Interpretive Center. If you are lucky to be there on a stormy day or better yet on a day after a storm the holes blow regularly. When the hole blows there is a loud "Woomp." ⇦ Back to Page 6 On to Page 1 ⇨Return to Cook's Chasm Choices |
