1. Dinner at the Crater Lake Lodge

Sited on the southwest rim of the lake, construction of the hotel was begun in 1909 and it was first opened, although not yet completed, on June 28, 1915. The short (5 month) construction season, altitude, and weather provided considerable obstacles in building the lodge. When first opened, Crater Lake Lodge had 65 rooms and cost $3.50 a night for lodging and meals. In 1923, the hotel was enlarged by the addition of a southwest wing or annex. Today, the lodge features 71 rooms (and costs a lot more than $3.50 a night).
