Backpacking in King's Canyon

1. Our Base Camp

This trip began in the summer of 1971. Chet is 13 and Landon is 10. Here we have set up our base camp with our van and 14-foot travel trailer. Here we will rest from our trip to the park and get our permits to overnight trail backpacking. We will then fill our backpacks and inventory to ensure that we have everything needed for the trip. We will check that we have all the proper equipment, food, stove fuel, and safety equipment. If something vital gets left behind it can spoil your trip. Also make sure the loads have been properly distributed based on age and ability. Dad and Chet get the heaviest load, Mom the lightest.
