Western False Asphodel (Sticky False Asphodel)

Tofieldia glutinosa - Locally common, midsummer, perennial, 12-40 in. Stem erect from clump of basal leaves. Stems smooth on bottom, covered with red sticky glands on hairs above. Leaves iris-like, 1/2 as long as flower stem. Flowers in small dense cluster at top, buds are pinkish or red, open to white flowers with stamens extending beyond petals. Seed in erect, red, fleshy, 3-lobed capsule. Grows in bogs, fens, small streams, wet meadows from valleys to subalpine areas. Native.
