Pacific Bleeding Heart

Dicentra formosa - Description: Pink, heart-shaped flowers hang in small branched clusters above soft, fern-like, bluish-green leaves at base. Flowers: about 3/4 inch long; at base 2 small sepals that drop off; petals 4, pale pink or rose, in two pairs; outer with pouch at base, forming a outline of heart, with spreading tips and inner two 2 facing each other, with wavy crest on back. Leaves: with long stalks, 9-20" long, elaborately pinnately pinnately compound leaflets. Flowers March to July. Found in damp shaded places or in wetter climates in open woods. Found from southern British Columbia to central California.
