Dichelostemma capitatum - Common, early summer, perennial, 6-27 in. Erect straight stem, dense head of blue flowers. Stem and leaves about the same length. Leaves 2-3 grass-like. Stem topped with tight head of bell-shaped flowers held by 204 papery white to dark bracts. Flowers have 6 stamens, 3 longer and 3 shorter, covered by 3 deeply notched projections, white, sometimes pink at base, angled toward center. Often grows in large numbers in grasslands, deserts, dry woods, below 7000 ft. Native.
