Wildflowers Found in Oregon Elegant Cat's Ear Calochortus elegans A small plant with slender, bent stems and a few white flowers, in a branched cluster shorter than the single grass-like leaf. Flowers: about 1" wide, sepals 3, lanceolate; petals 3, broad, slightly longer than sepals, densely hairy on surface, often with a purple crescent near the base above the gland, on which lower side is a fringed membrane. Leaves 4-8" long. Flowers from May to June. Habitat is grassy hillsides and open coniferous woods. Their range is Southern Washington and northeastern Oregon to western Montana.
