Running Clubmoss

Lycopodium clavatum - Horizontal stems extensively creeping on surface of ground, sometimes arching, to 1 m or more long, rooting at intervals, leafy; erect stems irregularly branched, to 25 cm tall. Leaves bright-green, crowded, ascending to spreading, in about 10 ranks, lance-shaped, tipped with soft, white bristles. Grows in moist to dry open forests or edges of swamps and bogs; openings, clearings and roadcuts (often on acid sandy soil); occasionally in high-elevation heath and tundra; at all elevations.
