Sticky Currant

Ribes viscosissimum - Locally common, early summer, perennial, 2-6 ft. Upright to spreading shrub covered with glands that secrete a very gummy substance. Stems to 40 in. long, without spines. Leaves grey-green, thick, fragrant, round, palmately divided into 5 toothed lobes. Flowers bell-shaped, whitish green to yellowish white, 4-15 in erect to hanging cluster. Berries black, covered with bluish wax, very gummy. Grows in streambanks, damp to dry woods, at mid to high elevations. Native. slopes, near sea level to 700 ft.
