Smooth Hawksbeard

Crepis capillaris - This is a highly variable annual weed. The stems are extensively branched, at least above, producing numerous heads of bright yellow ray flowers. The leaves vary from merely toothed to pinnately divided into long linear segments. The rays are about 1/2 inch long. Smooth Hawksbeard was introduced from Europe and has become a common weed on the west side of the Cascade Range, extending from British Columbia to California. It grows primarily in meadows, pastures, and along roadsides.
