Yellow Pond Lily
(Spattterdock, Cow-Lily, Yellow Water Lily)

Nuphar lutea - Common, midsummer, perennial. Leaves arise directly from underwater root system and float or rise above water. Leaves 4-18 in. long, heart-shaped. Cup-shaped flowers float or rise above water, are about 4 in. across, yellow, often tinged green or red. Flower center includes large, bright yellow, disk-like stigma surrounded by yellow or red-tinted stamens. Found in shallow ponds and slow streams usually 2-10 ft. deep at elevations below treeline. Native.
