Tongue Leaved Luina (Rainiera)

Rainiera stricta (Luina stricta) - Uncommon, midsummer, perennial, 20-40 in. Erect stem from base of large leaves. Basal and lower leaves carried by short petiole, broadly oval, with pointed tip, 6-14 in. long; middle and upper leaves becoming smaller and sessile. Inflorescence consists of spike 4-15 in. long atop stem. Each flower head bears about 5 flowers in elongated cup created by 5-6 bracts. Grows in meadows, open areas, at high elevations. Native.
