Rooting Cauliflower Mushroom

Sparassis radicata - Large rounded cauliflower- or lettuce like mass with crimped, white to pale yellowish, leaflike branches and long, rooted stalk. Mushroom 6-14 inches wide, 10-20 inches high. Edibility: Reported Choice. Season: September to November. Habitat: On the ground under conifers and on conifer roots and stumps. Range: West of Rocky Mountains from British Columbia to Northern California.
