Azure Penstemon

Penstemon azureus - Locally common, midsummer, perennial, 8-30 in. Stems and leaves hairless, not sticky. Leaves blue with waxy coating, oval, widest at base, clasping stem, pointed tip. Flower bright lavender-blue, opens from a yellow bud, staminode hairless. Grows on dry open slopes in hills and mountains at low to high elevations. Native.
