Gem Studded Puffball

Lycoperdon perlatum - Mushroom: 1-2 3/8 in wide, 1 1/4-3 in. high; usually round to turban-shaped with somewhat elongated, stalk like base. Edibility: Reported choice. Season: July-October. Habitat: Single to scattered or clustered, in open woods, along roads, on ground in urban areas. Range: Widely distributed in North America. Puffballs Mature. When mature, the slightest touch brings forth a cloud of spores. You will then have hundreds next year.
