Spring Gold (Fine Leaf Desert Parsley, Foothill Lomatium)

Lomatium utriculatum - Common, all spring, perennial, 6-24 in. Upright clump. Stems leafy, hairless or sparsely hairy. Leaves mostly basal, a few on lower stem, petioles widely sheathing to first branch; blade dissected pinnately into very narrow, linear, fern-like leaflets. Inglorescence small, with compact clusters in open umbels. Flowers small, bright yellow, sustained by egg-shaped, overlapping bractlets. Grows in meadows, woodlands, open and often rocky places, from near coastline to mid elevations. One of the longest-blooming flowers, starting as early January and found as late as July. Native.
