Black Twinberry
Lonicera involucrata - Locally common, early summer, perennial, 3-9 ft. Spreading to erect shrub. Young stems square. Stem and leaves with glands, few hairs. Leaves opposite, egg-shaped, with pointed tip, 1-5 in. long, short petioles. Flowers in pairs, yellow, trumpet-shaped, with5 lobes, surrounded by 2 pairs of large green to purple bracts. Berries 2, shiny black, in enlarged bright purplish or red bracts. Grows in moist forests, along streams, swamps, at all elevations except alpine. Native.
