Stems smooth, often bent at nodes and looking zigzagged. Leaves oval, with sharp point, 3-6 in. long, surrounding or clasping stem. Yellow, cream, or white bell-shaped flowers hang under leaves on sharply kinked or twisted stalks, tips flaring out and curving upward. Berries watermelon red.
