1. Fine cord of a fibrous material, such as cotton or flax, made of two or more filaments twisted together and used in needlework and the weaving of cloth. We used some yellow thread to sew the shirt.
2. A piece of such cord. A thread fell on the floor from his garment.
3. A ridge wrapped around a cylinder or cone in the form of a helix. The thread on the bolt had been damaged.
