Church Services at Chengdu, Sichuan 2. Chengdu Christian Church Courtyard This is the Chinese Christian Church we attended in Chengdu in 1984-5 and in 1987-88. We took this picture in 1985. This is the courtyard and it is packed. The sanctuary is completely full and these young people are waiting outside to hear the sermon. During the Great Cultural Revolution the government confiscated the Church and used it for a grain storage warehouse. In 1978 they gave it back to the Church and paid them 12 years rent for the time they had used it. With the money the Church built a Seminary. You can see it in the background to the left. "The Lord works in mysterious ways his wonder to perform. It is Easter Sunday, April 1985. On to Scene 3 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (168K) Return to Chengdu Church Page 1 |
