7. Eating Out in China Dinner with a Chinese Family When we were working in Chengdu in 1984-5 we arranged to visit a village cooperative. We asked them to let us tour and then eat a meal there. There were 24 at the dinner which you see here. We had 8 of our people and they had 16. We paid for the dinner and it cost $12.50 US. It was wonderful. The house was fueled by bio-gas. There was a large vat underground which they put in pig manure, straw and it produced methane gas which they used for lights and cooking.
