Are Things Getting Better in China? - 1949 to 1985 - Page 13
A College Paper by Paul Noll (1990) L. Chinese Cultural Institutions The Communist government has not neglected the cultural arena. It has always realized the importance of the dissemination of information to the masses to get across its ideological messages. There were significant increases in cultural fields and publications. The cultural events are extremely low priced and available to everyone. The prices in movie theaters are about five to ten fen (about 1 to 2 cents U.S.). Plays, operas, and performing art shows average about five cents U.S. and tickets are readily available to all. Most of the performances are to full audiences. Many movies from around the world are shown in the Chinese cities as well as in the countryside. In this table we can see the improvement in cultural institutions. |
