Translation "South of the Sea" - Population - 9,035,000 Million Hainan is a tropical island off China's southern coast, separated from Guangdong province by the Qiongzhou Straits. It is a major source of oil and tropical crops but corruption has discouraged most investors. The island grows and exports more than 20 kinds of fruit and vegetables, as well as cinnamon, coconuts, rice, sugar and tobacco. The island's forests have been reduced from 50% of the land to less than 8%. Hainan is rich in minerals, especially bauxite, copper, iron ore, and tin. |
