Gardens in the City of Suzhou 2. Lion Grove Garden Here you see a rockery in the Lion Grove Garden in the City of Suzhou. A Buddhist monk founded the garden in 1336. It was last owned by relatives of the renowned American architect I. M. Pei. The garden consists of four small lakes, a multitude of buildings, and random swirls of rockeries. Its elements are strange to those unaccustomed to Chinese Gardens. The Garden is particularly well known for the great quantities of its Taihu rocks that form an intriguing maze of mountain paths and varied scenes. ⇦ Back to Page 1 On to Page 3 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (254K) Back to Suzhou - Page 1 |
