The City of Xinzheng, Henan

Xinzheng lies in the center of Henan. It is a satellite city of Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province. It is one of the special experimental cities for reform and liberalization in Henan Province. To the north is Zhengzhou, to the east is Kaifeng, to the south is Xuchang, and to the west is Luoyang.

Xinzheng is the birthplace of Xuanyuan Huangdi, the first ancestor of the Chinese people. Eight thousand years ago the Peiligang Village of Xincun Town was established in the city of Xinzheng. Huangdi made Xinzheng his capital and began the fabulous Chinese Culture. During the Spring and Autumn Period (770-446 BC), the Zheng and Han made their capital here in Xinzheng for hundreds of years. Xinzheng is listed as the first of the Ten Ancient Capitals of China.

Xinzheng abounds in natural resources and possesses a good economic base. Its mineral resources contain coal, iron, bauxite, refractory soil, silica, and limestone. The proven reserves of coal are 1,130 million tons and great investments have been made for its utilization. Xinzheng is rich in both surface and ground water resources. The quality of the red jujube (dates) produced in Xinzheng is the best in China and is famous all over the world for its small pit, rich pulp, good firm fruit, its sweetness and its high content of vitamins. Xinzheng produces 10 million kilograms (22 million pounds) annually.
