17. Ditch along Remen Nan Lu

During periods of heavy rain the streets would become quite full with running water. Remen Nan Lu (Peoples' South Road), could become a virtual river. The government began a project to construct a drainage line. Here this young man carries a load of the removed dirt away in his yoke baskets.
