19. Ditch along Remen Nan Lu

In this photo you can see the beginning of this section of the ditch. Note the piles of debris stored along side the ditch. Note also that women and men work at the same job with equal pay. Why all manual labor and no machines? Machines cost money to buy and run. Labor is cheap and readily available. Additionally the people need and want jobs. All the laborers come from the rural areas. They represent the peasant class in this "egalitarian classless society."
