Chengdu, Sichuan 32. Jinjiang Hotel in Chengdu This is the Jinjiang Hotel on Renmen Nan Lu in Chengdu in 1984. It was then the only hotel that allowed foreigners to stay in. In fact Chinese were not allowed to go in. This we thought strange but it their country to run. Later in 1987 they opened it up to Chinese and it was over run with Chinese for days to see what they were not allowed to see for many years. Eventually they found they were missing nothing. We often went there to buy bread and pastries. They also had good food. Bernice and I bought 30 silk blouses, all they had, when we discovered they were $3 US a piece. In 1987 another more modern hotel opened across the street and they were forced to update. ⇦ Back to Page 31 On to Page 33 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (103K) Return to Chengdu Page 4 |
