Banpo Neolithic Village Xi'an - 2008 63. Banpo Village Housing In the village, houses of the round and square types were clustered together, as if the village held two clans, each with its own kind of housing. Each house had a baked mud fireplace, a plastered floor, and some pits for household supplies. In a later development, the villagers built a third sort of house, a long-house-type structure twenty meters long and about twelve meters wide. This was divided into compartments, each with a fireplace. According to the housing capacity, archaeologists estimate the population of old Banpo at five or six hundred. ⇦ Back to Page 62 On to Page 64 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (243K) Return to Banpo Village - Page 8 |
