Zhengzhou Scenes 22. Yellow River Lookout Zhengzhou is very near the Yellow River. This is a lookout with a view of the river in the background. In a infamous incident now memorialized locally, the Guomindang (Nationalist) army breached the dike of the Yellow River less than 20 miles northeast of the city in order to deny Zhengzhou to the Japanese. The action resulted in devastating floods that costs thousands of lives through drowning or subsequent starvation.
