Zhengzhou Scenes 23. Zhengzhou City Scene Zhengzhou is a verdant city. Visitors are left with an impression of a modern urban locality enveloped in multi-layer foliage. Although its tourist's attractions do not rival those of Shanghai, Xi'an, of Beijing, Zhengzhou is nevertheless a city of considerable interest. Most of Zhengzhou is modern in appearance, reflecting its tremendous growth since 1950 (when the population was only 100,000). In the new section of town, blocks of government, educational, and cultural buildings are intermingled with extensive residential areas. The old town core, with narrow, maze-like streets and traditional houses, serves as a reminder of another era. Some housing foundations and graves from the 3rd century BC have been discovered in this old section, and remnants of the ancient wall still stand. ⇦ Back to Page 22 On to Page 24 ⇨Return to Zhengzhou Scenes Page 3 |
