Destroyed North Korean T34 Tank 581st Signal Co.at Inchon (1950)
11. Destroyed North Korean T34 Tank

After landing in Inchon we camped in some buildings and did some training. Nearby was a Marine bakery. When they moved out they left a great deal of supplies, bakery goods and such. It was a nice bonanza for us. Price and I took a good deal of them back to our unit and then gave the rest to local natives who were happy to get them. After the marines and infantry took Seoul we traveled to the city. On the way were a number of destroyed Russian T34 tanks that the Russians had sold to the North Koreans. Uncle Stalin had supported North Korea into attacking South Korea hoping to involve China and the US to fight each other. He considered each his enemy and wanted to weaken both of them.

The tanks looked almost in good condition until you looked at them closely. Then you could see where a shaped charge had struck them. There is a small hole on the outside and the inside is totally destroyed. I remember a number of these destroyed tanks along side the road to Seoul.
