We had excellent relations with the town of Sinchon. After we were there for a short while the town had a big celebration for us. There was singing, dancing and speeches. Here you can see many flags; there are North Korean Flags, South Korean Flags, and United Nations Flags. The people here in the city of Sinchon have, for the most part, been left out of the war. There is nothing much of military value. We are the only forces within 40-50 miles. I was deeply moved by their affection and warmth that they showed towards us. There were thousands of people at this celebration. We were the honored guests.

There was nothing between the Chinese army and us. The Chinese army could have taken us anytime they wanted. The thing that saved us was that there were more important targets than us at least in their minds.
