This was the fate of my second truck, the one I got to replace the one I lost in North Korea. This time I wasn't driving. I had loaned it to another in my team and while on a newly created road they pulled to the side to let a tank pass by and the road just collapsed and the truck plunged over the side. Fortunately no one was hurt, a miracle in itself. I took a picture as we passed by. We have already salvaged the wheels from the truck. Someone else took the engine. They just gave me a new truck and hoped for the best. No one was blamed for the wreck. The side of the road that gave way was just fill dirt that had been cut from the other side of the road.

The roads in Korea were extremely poor. I once waited at an intersection while 12 tanks passed. When they had finished the tracks they made while making the turn had created such a rut in the road that a bulldozer had to smooth it out before any trucks could pass over.     Hi-Res Pic (153K)
