Paul Noll Almost Loses His Third Truck 581st Co. in South Korea (1950-51))
6. Noll Almost Loses a Third Truck

Someone else was using my third truck when this happened. I don't remember just the situation but that they just reported that the truck had rolled over four times and was a mess. Someone drove us out to the site and a buddy and I attempted to rescue the remains. The canvas top is destroyed and the vehicle somewhat the worse for the event but we were determined to get it working again. We got the motor going after some repairs. We used the wench on the front to drag it out. I wasn't sure they would give me another truck again. Every army truck I ever had, had a wench on the front that often saved the day.

There is no AAA in Korea, and most of the time you are on your own. Once I got stuck in a mud hole in front of some railroad tracks. The water was two feet deep. I hooked the wench cable to the railroad rail and pulled myself out. When I was done the rails were somewhat closer together than when I started. That might have worried me except a locomotive was lying on its side on the rails a 100 yards down the tracks all shot up.    Hi-Res Pic (150K)
