2. Harry Shively at Taejon Relay Station At times we would leave the site to have a "look around" outside our compound. On this occasion, Dick Hayes and I were asked to go and look around. At this time we are still wearing the old WWII combat boots. These boots were good for most conditions but were not designed for deep snow. No matter how much dubbing was applied to the outside they were not waterproof. The cold penetrated the boot quickly and your feet got wet. Soon after we were issued snowpacs and ski socks which were much better. The idea was to wear as many ski socks as you had or could get into the snowpac.
