LSTs Unload Marines at Wonson 581st Signal Company at Wonson (1950)

9. LSTs at Wonson Landing

The magnitude of the logistical operation can be imagined from the reports of the Shore Party. By 31 October, when the 1st Marine Division's landing was completed, a total of 24 cargo vessels, 36 LSTs, and one LSM had been unloaded. Bulk cargo in the order of 18,402 tons had been moved across the beaches along with 30,189 personnel and 4,731 vehicles and 4,323 POWs. And in November as the rest of the X Corps poured ashore, the total of ship handled soared to 76 cargo and 52 LSTs, adding 30,928 personnel, 51,270 tons of supplies, and 7,113 vehicles to the buildup in Northeast Korea. The 581st Sig RR Co. assisted ferrying Marine Officers into town. I made many trips.
