Hill 775 Base Camp Tent Setup 581st Sig. RR Co. on Hill 775 - South Korea (1951)
1. Hill 775 Base Camp Tent Setup

In my years in Korea we set up this tent perhaps 50 times. The first few were keystone cops type of event. After that it went up very smoothly. I always marveled that it went up with a minimum of orders and talking. Everyone knew exactly what had to happen to make it go quickly and smoothly. The arrow points at Paul Noll pounding in the stakes on the sides. As you can observe the wind is blowing which increases the difficulty. I remember one time where we pitched the tent when the temperature was way below zero and the snow was about 3 feet deep.

Notice the small stream to the right. Two days later water was 2 feet high in the tent. A good lesson was learned. One time we had a new Lieutenant who watched with amazement as the tent went up so fast. When we were done he remarked, "The last crew I was with the men put up my tent too." I told him, "The last Lieutenant we had didn't have to ask." He then put up his own tent.     Hi-Res Pic (122K)
