My 1936 Chevy at Camp Leonard Woods, New Jersey Paul Noll Joins the US Army
19. My 1936 Chevy at Camp Leonard Woods

My 1936 Chevy has a long and interesting career. Some time after I had arrived at Fort Monmouth I sold my 1936 Chevy to another soldier for a $100 dollars. He paid $50 and would pay the other $50 the next month. Before the next month he was injured in a freak accident. While working in the mess hall cleaning the fluorescent light one fell and broke over his nose. The white power in the old tubes is a deadly poison and he was blinded. He asked me to just take the car back, which I did. Later it threw a rod and I sold it for $50 to another who wanted a car to work on. A few months later I was arrested by the state police who said my car was used as a getaway car in a bank holdup. A few explanations and I was free happily never to hear from the car again. I bought a 1941 Chevy Sedan to replace it.
