Paul Noll Joins the US Army
20. Company W, 5400 Signal Training Regiment, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey After a short stay at Camp Woods, just a few miles from Fort Monmouth, I was assigned to Company W of the 5400 Signal Training Regiment at Fort Monmouth. It was a welcome change from Camp Woods. There were some 54 companies in the STR. All of which were going to school for some phase of technical Signal Corps training. My school was 54 weeks long, 8 hours a day. It was the longest school offered, which is why I had signed up for it. I wanted something I could use in the civilian world. I hoped it would also keep me from having to do too much work in the trenches being shot at too much. Each day after chow we would form up in the ranks and march off to school. Different students would be dropped of at the various locations depending on their type of school. I enjoyed the classes which were taught mostly by civilian instructors. I finished with a final average score of 96 out of a 100 for the 54 weeks. My barracks is the second one from the right. Hi-Res Pic (77K) ⇦ Back to Scene 19 Return to Page 3 On to Scene 21 ⇨ |
