Paul Noll Joins the US Army
7. Chow at Fort Ord Battery B, 29th Field Artillery Here is the menu for one day at our mess hall at Battery B at Fort Ord. While it is common for most GIs to complain about army food and I most likely did my share, in general the food was good and I enjoyed it. Most cooks took great pride in their cooking. It is always difficult to cook for so many different tastes and they never can or would make it "taste like Mom made it," the food was wholesome and good. I have never been anywhere in any institution where many didn't complain about the food. It seems to be the inherent right of people to complain about the food no matter how good it was or how low the price. This particular outfit existed at that time solely for the purpose of doing basic training. Basic training at that time consisted of 16 weeks. It was good treatment, a good education, and for me something I needed at that time. I am proud of my time of the US Army and the army treated me very well. I received excellent training that has stood me in good stead and provided a lifetime of employment in the civilian world. ⇦ Back to Scene 6 Return to Page 1 On to Scene 8 ⇨ |
