31B. Local Heavy Rain Catches My Truck at the River It had been raining for a few days. When I went into town that morning for food I noticed that the river had risen somewhat. Army trucks can go in fairly deep water so I tried it. Fortunately I had the steering wheel to hang on to. Poor Dunkle didn't and he was almost washed down stream. Needless to say we were stuck. We hiked back to our base camp and got another truck to pull out this one. We had to hook the wench from the other truck to the back of my truck. Because it was my truck, I volunteered to go into the river to hook up the wench. I didn't want to get my new uniform wet so I took off my pants and shirt. About that time an idiot Captain came along and gave us hell for being out of uniform. So on went the clothes and wet they got. We did get the truck out and after some work got it running again. The world has its share of feeble-minded people and you just have to make allowances. We just laughed it off. Happily I never saw that Captain again. ⇦ Back to Page 31A On to Page 32 ⇨ |
