4. Mess Hall at Stonestown, Taejon
The Consolidated Mess Hall in Stonestown Compound was operated by the 8th Field Support Bn, HQ 23rd DS GP. It was good to eat at when you were down from an isolated site, in transit or staying a few nights during your off-time. However, most solders chose to eat at the Snack Bar when they had the money and that was usually early in the month. The food was always good and I appreciate and thank all of them for the hard work they did which helped to keep us happier. Even today the signal mess hall units are winners in the annual Army cooking competitions in Korea. We had Ration Cards for everything, liquor, beer and all sorts of PX items. We also had a Meal Card that was used to get into non duty mess halls when traveling. It was a way to reduce Black Marketing of food supplies. Not much could compare to the great food we got on our radio sites and they were open 24 hrs a day for munchies. ⇦ Back to Page 3 Return to Page 1 On to Page 5 ⇨ |
